Two men dead.

One was the hostage, shot by the gunman. The other was the gunman. Reading between the lines, it looks like suicide; the police tried for hours to contact him, couldn't, so they went in, and fifteen minutes later most of the emergency vehicles are gone from the neighbourhood. My guess is that they went in and found him dead without a shot being fired, because the news would have known about shots being fired after the police went in.

So, no suicide by cop. No one was hurt who wasn't directly involved. Later today, I'll go figure out which house it was. And I think I'll buy a newspaper.
