Make the punch, which is best done when the bowl is already on the table, best done after the tablecloth is on.

Put out silverware - see above.

Rearrange chairs so they make more sense.

Keep a little girl out of her "peasants" until everyone else arrives to see her open them.

Decide who is getting the lovely fisher-price tea set that I'm not giving to my daughter, because my aunt got her a much nicer one. (Regifting - it's a beautiful thing.

Remind myself that everyone who is coming is used to seeing my house a disaster zone.

I confess. My name is Velvet, and I'm an ljaholic. As soon as I'm finished answering my email, I'm going downstairs to watch veggietales with my birthday girl - but I have to answer the email first!

It's not a disaster zone, but it's definitely cluttered. Today the piles of clutter on every mostly-horizontal surface were driving me nuts. I'm over it now, though. My next big cleaning spree will probably happen the week before the May 24 weekend, because there are guests coming that weekend. (jinzi, don't bother telling me not to go to the trouble. I will anyway. I won't be able to help myself.)
