No, I absolutely think they happen in every subject. To be a little clearer, I was including educational experiences under environmental influences on ability. I very much agree with you and Erin that achievement gaps based on poor scholastic experience are very common--I just don't think that eliminating them would make all students' achievement levels similar enough to give them all the same basic curriculum in the same classroom.
