I always thought the goal of school was to keep children out of the workforce. Education is a side benefit for those intelligent enough to take it somewhere, not for everyone.

I learned almost nothing from teachers. I studied for tests by reading the night before. Sometimes the grades were good, sometimes not. I just wanted to read and do my time. Everyone knew I was smart when I opened my mouth, and the grades got glossed over.
